It is important when you start couponing to learn couponing lingo. When you talk to a couponer, you will notice that they speak a little differently than other people. In order to ensure that you are able to get the best deals I want to share some of the basic couponing lingo with you.
1. Q's- This is a simple way to say coupon. You may see this in writing or hear this in one of my videos on my channel.
2. P&G- This is a coupon insert that comes in the Sunday newspaper from Proctor and Gamble.
3. SS- This is a coupon insert that comes in the Sunday newspaper from Smart Source.
4. RM- This is a coupon insert that comes in the Sunday newspaper from Retail Me Not.
5. Rebate- This is usually talking about some sort of rebate that you get when you purchase the item, the rebate may be online, through mail, or through apps such as Ibotta or Fetch.
6. BOGO- Buy One Get One
7. BOGO50%- Buy One Get One 50% off.
8. DG- Dollar General
9. Wags- Walgreens
10. any number/any number (example 5/25, 2/1, or 3/2) You will see this when a person is talking about a coupon. It means the first number in dollar a dollar amount off of the second number. The second number can be a dollar amount or the number of items that you have to purchase. For example, a 5/25 means 5 dollars off of the purchase of 25 dollars. However, a 2/1 means 2 dollars off of the purchase of 1 product.
11. CRT- This is a coupon that you will get at the coupon box at CVS. They can only be used at CVS as they are CVS coupons. You can use a manufacturer coupon with the CRT.
12. Manufacturer coupon- This is a coupon that has been put out by the manufacturer.
13. Store coupon- This is a coupon that is put out by the store and can be used with a manufacturer coupon.
14. Register Rewards- You can get these from Walgreens. They will print out of the Catalina machine when you purchase certain products that are on sale during a specific time period. These are actually manufacturer coupons and can be used at any store.
15. Points- You will receive points when you purchase certain items at Walgreens. These points are used to pay for your future purchases. 1,000 points = 1 dollar.
16. Insert- This is the small booklet inside of the Sunday newspaper that your coupons are found in.
17. Digital coupon- This is a coupon that is located on a store app and can only be used digitally at that specific store.
18. Paper Coupon- This generally refers to the coupons that you get out of your Sunday newspapers.
19. Printable- This refers to a coupon that you can print from Coupons.com or other source.
20. Stacking- The act of using a store coupon and a manufacturer coupon together in order to get the most savings possible.
Of course this is not an all inclusive list of all of the different couponing lingo that you will encounter as you learn how to coupon. However, if you come across something that you do not understand, just leave it in the comments and I will add it to the list.
It is important to understand this lingo, especially if you are watching my videos or reading any blog about couponing because you will find that every single couponer uses the same words to describe what they are doing.
Learning the lingo is going to help you to better understand what is being said to ensure that you are able to take advantage of all of the best deals.
